I have decided to make my blog both spiritual and personal. I will try to daily write a reflection on the gospel appointed for the day. It is my hope that my life as it contacts the Word of God will have meaning to you as well.
When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” 4And Jesus said to her, “O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Mary at the wedding in Cana seemed to have the insight into what Jesus was meant to do. Maybe even Jesus in his humanity was reluctant to move into the path that God had planned for him. Mary seemed to be saying, "Get going." The first adult revelation of his glory was because Mary insisted that the servants do what he told them. I don't think this gift is necessarily universal because you are a mother, but I do think God often provides parents with special insights for their children and grandchildren. I loved watching my children, even as adults, find wisdom in conversations with their mother or grandmother. Marsha was not always easy on her children, and I'm not saying they always wanted to listen to her words, but when they were open to hear, she was a fountain or wisdom. Jesus sprang into sight in the world by his first miracle at the wedding in Cana. He could have continued to drift along unnoticed in the world, but his mother knew that God had a bigger plan for him. I think God has a bigger plan for all of us. We often lack the one who will challenge us to be that spectacular person God has created us to be. Maybe mom is not that person for you, maybe grandma is not that person for you, but God still has a spectacular plan for your life. You are meant to make a difference in this world, if people in your world won't tell you what to do in order to reveal God's glory, than God will if you listen. Let all who have ears listen to what the Spirit is saying to the people.
