Make Up Your Mind

John 6:11-14 Jesus then took the loavesand when he had given thankshe distributed them to those who were seatedso also the fishas much as they wantedAnd when they had eaten their fillhe told his disciplesGather up the fragments left overthat nothing may be lost.” So they gathered them up and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loavesleft by those who had eatenWhen the people saw the sign which he had donethey said, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world!”

One minute Jesus is hailed as the prophet who was to come into the world and the next they are picking up stones to kill Him. In one situation they are trying to corner Him and rush to make Him king, and the next they are calling Him Beelzebub the prince of demons. He doesn't just accept their conclusions one way or the other, but He doesn't let it change His direction or purpose. He said, "I only do what I see God doing." So God just keeps moving through history to accomplish His final purpose and human beings just continue to try to distract His journey.

I have known those same hot and cold swings in my relationship and understanding of God. Earlier in my Christian life I tried to jump from mountaintop to mountaintop. By the way, that didn't work, and it made me disappointed in God that I couldn't stay on those oh so pleasant mountaintops. At other times the circumstances of life had me complaining to and about God, not exactly wanting to stone Him, but not exactly a happy camper either. In these later years I have been swayed less by circumstances and much more stable in my acceptance of the journey with Him. He is more than the prophet who was to come, he is the Son of God my Savior. He needs be no more or no less. Thanks be to God!!!
