Listen to Him

John 8:47 He who is of God hears the words of God; the reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”


Jesus in this section of the gospel of John does not mince words with the people who denied His authority to speak.  They claimed to be the children of Abraham, but Jesus said that Abraham listened to God. He said these supposed children of Abraham were not listening to God because they refused to listen to Him as he spoke God's words. He is specific in telling them they are not of God. Twice in the gospel accounts a voice from heaven telling who He was and telling the listeners to listen to Him. 


Many people have told me they want to know what God wants. Some are genuinely frustrated that they have not heard from God. These are people that I know to be honest and genuine people. I have been unable to figure out why they have not heard God or know what he wants from them and for them. I have felt blessed that somehow in the mystery of all this I do hear God speak to me clearly inside my mind. 


I do know God doesn't tell us to do something we can't do. He says listen to Him, and Jesus said that his followers hear His voice and recognize it. I can't think of any task more worth our effort than to hear directly from the creator of the whole creation.So keep trying, and just listen to Him.
