Luke 3:16 I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Although the gospels tell the same story from different points of view and although they have a number of think in common, we find relatively few pieces that are found in all four gospels. The specific words may vary from gospel to gospel but in all cases the essence is the same. It is not that John's water baptism lacks important, but John wants all of us to know that something greater and even more important was to come. Certainly the cross and resurrection are the most central parts of Jesus mission, but sending the Holy Spirit is clearly second.
How do you view the baptism in the Holy Spirit? Remember this is not a gentle activity. In the gospels it is described with the addition of and fire or and power. What does it mean to be baptized with fire or power? Is that how you see your relationship with the Holy Spirit? Remember the old TV commercial quote, "Where's the beef?" We might ask where's the power? The Holy Spirit is meant to make a difference, and not just in you and your life but through you and other peoples lives. I pray the church and it's members will find the difference.
