Let Me Count The Ways!

John 21:15-16  When they had finished breakfastJesus said to Simon PeterSimon son of Johndo you love me more than these?” He said to him, “YesLordyou know that I love you.” Jesus said to himFeed my lambs.”

I love this piece of scripture. Now I'm not saying I'm Peter or deserve the same treatment as Peter, but Jesus is not about giving us what we deserve. I also don't expect to have my Lord cook me breakfast by the sea of Gallilee or any sea for that matter. I can however see him asking me, "Dana do you love me?" I've had experiences like that with Jesus as he helps me reflect on my ministry (response to his grace) especially as a priest. Although I've been shown my areas needing growth, I always felt his kind loving eyes upon me as it happened.

Last Sunday part of my sermon reflected on the words of Jesus saying, "If you love me you will keep my commands." At that point I could see Jesus looking at my life ans wondering, does Dana love me? You see the answer would be found in my life choices. Do my life choices obey his commands, like proclaim that the kingdom of God has come near, love you enemies. I think we often think our answer when he asks us if we love him wil be to say listen to my warm fuzzy heart go pitter patter at your voice, but Jesus says obey my commands. Jesus says faithful actions not fluffy emotions. Oh how I love thee let me count the ways. I hope I have the right list. What's on your list as you count the ways?
