Matthew 7:24-27 “Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.”
Jesus in this passage is not speaking about all his words. This is the message of Jesus that ends the sermon on the mount. If you build your life on his teaching in Matthew chapters 5-7 you will have a house on a solid rock foundation. In scripture Jesus is called the corner stone, the key stone, and the rock of stumbling among other things. Here at the Myrtle Beach with all the homes along the beach, you can certainly see the problem of shifting sand. The beach changes shape with almost every tide and huge changes with every storm. Sand comes in and builds the beach and sand goes out and leave these four foot straight drops where the sand has been washed away below these mid beach small cliffs. It is not hard to see that those houses need deep foundations to endure hurricane wind and waves. I would not want my life to be that fragile. At times I sit or walk at the beach and get sand blasted by sand in the air. I would not want the foundation of my life to leave me living at the whim of the world, carried here and there by the winds or rains of life.
I have heard Jesus teaching and that presents me with the choice, to do the things he said or not to do them. One leads to security the other leads to disaster. Read those chapters again and again, nothing could be more important than a life built on Christ as the foundation. These are some of the most challenging words in the whole bible, and I don't find them easy, but I best not ignore them. A tough teaching and jesus ends with this story and says THE END!
